Like everything else, it’s useful in moderation
A good servant, but a bad master

And all so-called civilized peoples
Have increasingly become crazy and self-destructive
Because, through excessive thinking
They have lost touch with reality
That’s to say
We confuse signs
With the real world

A bad master? He said it so long ago… I think therefore I am. To think is to be, to think is to be human. The thought is what imbues organic life with consciousness, to make light where previously there was but darkness. More thought brings more colour to more parts of life. To think is to be able to see the world in richer colour, to hear its movements in fuller and more crystalline sound.

They have lost touch with reality. Hmm… What is reality? Surely it cannot be suggested that reality is a universal construct that has the exact same definition to every human being. For all living things, what is real (or perhaps: What can be experienced as feeling real) is defined by their experiences, memories, knowledge and genetics. Things we have never discovered cannot significantly impact us as the humans whose lives are lived in proximity to it. Events happen before our time and have but a small effect on our immediate reality, but they weighed heavily on the lives of generations past.

We confuse signs With the real world Fate leads the willing, and drags along the reluctant.
